fame
when I still thought
I would become famous
Choreography Preformance
multimedia performance, solo, 40 min
"I want to become famous, because it is very important to be famous." Walkways, casting shows, YouTube - celebrity seems to be a modern plague. For many people, the public and media recognition is life’s single goal. In this tragicomic dance solo, "fame", I go on the hunt for clicks and likes, panting between moves and looks, - always having only one goal in mind -, to be recognised, loved and admired. I turn, without fear of embarrassment, my Youtube channel into my stage and desire just one thing from the spectator: to be idolised.
"Fame" is a dance-theatre solo about the young generation’s desire to become famous, to gain recognition, to become “someone”. The work is built like a Youtube channel using the techniques of pop art: borrowing existing elements, taking them out of their context, and re-producing them. I was inspired by real-life idols, such as Andy Warhol, David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. This work plays with distance and closeness, creating an illusion of being close to someone while they remain still unreachable. Constantly creating and re-creating myself, employing the clichés and stereotypes offered by pop culture, and trying to gain the audience’s acceptance and admiration.
“Auf jeden Fall präsentierte die junge Tänzerin und Choreographin mit viel Witz, starken Bewegungen und sogar exzellentem Gesang ein bemerkenswertes Solo. (kultur-kritik.net)”
